Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist

SALARY RANGE: 42k – 45k

Position description: The primary responsibility of the Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist is to provide support to the Physician and Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in providing optimal patient care. The Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist will ensure the proper provision of daily functions in the clinic. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates patient care within the waiting area.
  • Managing patient appointments in accordance to the time and schedule of the doctors.
  • Obtains all insurance information and required documentation for the client’s medical records.
  • Conducts triage services to patients and document all vital signs in client’s medical records.
  • Cleans and sterilizes materials and instruments following universal precautions.
  • Prepares examination rooms and maintains medical supplies and equipment for examinations.
  • Provides a range of education and HIV counseling and testing services to at-risk active drug users, sex workers and homeless individuals
  • Conducts Hepatitis education/screenings and STI education/screenings
  • Handles all data entry for electronic medical records and ensures that the health care system runs effectively.
  • Maintains correspondence with both the insurance companies and patients.
  • Participates in medical treatment and direct observation of patients under care.
  • Maintains inventory of medical supplies and materials
  • Provides instructions and guidance regarding medical care matters to patients.
  • Provides education in buprenorphine and other drug treatment options.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times as per AHP policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • New York State Phlebotomist certification
  • Must have extensive knowledge in HIV/HCV/STI prevention and harm reduction practices.
  • Must be extremely comfortable working with at-risk populations with complex needs.
  • Must have the ability to perform standard phlebotomy procedures and techniques
  • Knowledge of appropriate blood processing and handling procedures
  • Must possess experience in the areas of HIV prevention, STI’s, mental health and substance use.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team within a larger organization of multiple programs.
  • Should be an organized, self-motivated and committed to working in a multi-racial diverse environment.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) MUCH preferred.

SHC Housing Specialist

SALARY RANGE: $45,000 – $50,000 plus Benefits

Position description: Responsible for assisting HIV positive documented and undocumented individuals and their families in identifying/obtaining safe and affordable housing The Housing Specialist will work with the Short-term Housing Program (SHC) to interview applicants and determine eligibility and need of assistance.

  • Conduct housing screenings, intakes and assessments with clients referred from internal programs and external agencies
  • Assist clients in completing landlord and property management housing applications, including helping to secure needed documentation and escorting clients to housing briefings
  • Conduct housing quality standard inspections and negotiate with landlord/management companies regarding inspection results and/or addressing deficiencies
  • Provide hands-on assistance to enable clients to find suitable housing, including escorting clients to apartment viewings and conducting neighborhood research.
  • Provide advocacy to overcome any issues or challenges for securing suitable housing
  • Conduct orientations with new clients to explain housing rules and regulations and lease obligations, as well as housing quality standards and housing assistance policies
  • Conduct follow up and maintain all required documents in client files as required by funding source
  • Prepare recertification letters for both the client and landlord on a monthly basis
  • Assist with monthly check request for 240 clients
  • Assesses clients’ needs by conducting interviews and structured assessments using Motivational Interviewing techniques to engage clients and determine social needs
  • Prepare monthly statistical reports and other data as required

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but will consider extensive experience for Minimum 2-3 years relevant experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of working with HIV positive undocumented individuals, including LGBTQ, MSM and transgendered
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Flexible team player
  • Detail oriented
  • Bilingual (Preferred not required)

SAMHSA Health Educator

SALARY RANGE: 42k-45k plus benefits

Position description: The SAMHASA Health Educator will facilitate educational sessions to improve quality of health within individuals in the community. They will also conduct rapid HIVHCV/STI testing. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for conducting street-based outreach and recruit participants for HIV
  • Conduct individual and group health educational sessions in the areas of HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted infections.
  • Provide appropriate referrals in an expeditious manner to facilitate needed services and care.
  • Conduct follow-up with clients and facilities to ensure that appropriate services are being
  • Conduct overdose prevention education and training.
  • Attend meetings as assigned.

Position requirements:

  • Minimum two years providing health educational services within communities affected by HIV/AIDS, homelessness and substance use in New York City.
