Transitional Housing Program

After Hours Project’s Short Term Transitional Housing Program provides a decent, clean and safe place for formally homeless and unstably housed People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). We empower clients to obtain and maintain stable housing by increasing the number of PLWHA who enter into and stay in comprehensive HIV/AIDS care and treatment by providing HIV infected homeless or unstably housed persons with stable housing; and decreasing homelessness among individuals with HIV disease. The goal of our program is to provide appropriate housing and assistance in attaining necessary support services, i.e., Independent Living Skills Counseling, Advocacy and Entitlement Services, Educational, Vocational and Employment referrals and placement. We strongly believe a persons’ quality of life is directly related to their housing stabilization and the effectiveness of their health care management and services. AHP provides both congregate and scattered-site housing and also provides permanent housing placements in safe, affordable permanent housing through its short-term housing program and/or through referrals to our external housing providers.

AHP’s Short Term Transitional Housing Program has grown from a handful of apartments in 2010 to over fifty (50) housing units scattered across Brooklyn and Queens.

Housing is such a critical component of client success, and AHP’s commitment to providing first-class housing for our clients with HIV/AIDS distinguishes our program from others.

Short-Term Rental Assistance Program

The Short-Term Rental Assistance Program (STRAP) provides financial assistance to vulnerable populations who are grappling with the costs of living. AHP’s STRAP, alleviates rental costs by directly subsidizing payments to landlords and/or management companies on a temporary basis, with the goal of helping clients stabilize their long-term housing arrangements within a two-year period.

How does the program work?

If you are to meet enrollment criteria for the Short-Term Rental Assistance Program, we will work with you to develop a plan to help you stabilize your housing situation. AHP will make payments directly to your landlord and/or management company on your behalf. We will also provide you with case management services to help you address any other challenges you may be facing.

Why is Short-Term Rental Assistance important?

Stable housing is essential for good health and well-being. Studies have shown that without a safe and affordable place to live, it can be difficult to manage your mental hygiene and overall health. The Short-Term Rental Assistance Program can help you maintain stable housing and achieve your health and wellness goals.
